Tandem Balancing
Tandem balancing is when two practitioners team up to do a balancing. Most of the dynamics remain the same. There are many, many dynamics taking place within the Field of Balancing. The practitioner witnesses, thus attuning to a whole spectrum of frequencies or levels. The client opens and storyline begins to reel out. The greater Noetic Field holds this reeling out of the physical, imaginal, emotional, mental and unconscious magnetic frequencies. These will represent energetically as frequencies as well as symbolically in pictures, symbols or ideas. The practitioner in witnessing will bring to light or express or expose this reeling out. Unconditionality, objectivity and acceptance (with loving) create the witness. The practitioner then guides with intention. Tandem balancing adds another consciousness to the mix. There are specific dynamics which come along with this.
In the Field of Balancing, a block or distortion, which may be a belief, a decision, or a judgment will have a frequency to it. This frequency will resonate within the practitioner due to our shared humanity. If the practitioner mistakes this resonance as their own unresolved issue then typically their clarity of the presenting issue declines, it becomes opaque . In this case the practitioner handles it as best they can by noticing it, holding alignment and keeping intention focused. In a personal involvement the practitioner may find themselves having a judgment toward the client, may want to save the client or may have their own feelings show up and lose objectivity. Psychologically this is counter transference. In NFT the counter transference is deeply energetic.
Now we come to tandem balancing where there are two practitioners working with a client together. When I was first training in NFT back in the late 70's and early 80's I did observe a few balancings done in tandem by my teachers at the time. However it was a rare occurrence. Later in various classes or trainings tandem balancing would take place, always in the capacity of teaching. In a teaching situation when a practitioner is training students there will often be two or sometimes more balancers working on a person. In training, the dynamics are different and don't apply the same way they would to a situation where two practitioners team up to do balancing.
In my experience of tandem balancing, the ante is upped on inter- personal skills like cooperation, objectivity, acceptance and communication. The matrix intends to illuminate any distortion or block. The relationship between the two practitioners balancing together is another area where the energy will move in and do this. The matrix is eminently available to balance in the relationship field between the practitioners as well as in the field between the practitioner and client. The clarity of the relationship of the "team", then, plays a significant role in the balancing. While unconditionality on the practitioners' part already plays a huge role in the balancing, in a tandem balancing it is the safe haven.
I have done a balancing with another practitioner where we both held the central focus. Prior to the balancing we agreed on particular tasks we would each do and then proceeded. Practitioners may have greater strengths in different areas and use this as an asset in the balancing. We communicated with each other as we went, asking for each others' perceptions and insight. In this way we both pretty much participated in all aspects of the balancing. In my experience, teaming up with a colleague was powerful as long as we communicated and held alignment and intention.
There is a difference, in my experience, between balancing with a partner who is a colleague or with a partner whom I am in a close personal relationship with. My wife Danielle and I did tandem balancings together for a couple years (and will again when the situation arises). We started out with one of us as the balancer and the other sat in a chair on the side and acted as a Light Bearer. This naturally morphed into the style we came to use. In our balancings one of us was the agreed upon lead. In our experience this approach supports the way the energetic field flows in the balancing. At times the supporting team member would be mostly silent, at other times would participate fully or even be the principal for a while. We would verbally explore storylines and support one another in identifying blocks, miasmas, implants or whatever. At times both of us would stand and work with our pendulums or hands in the energy field of the client. The lead always primarily guided the intention. The closeness of our personal relationship adds interesting dynamics to the balancing.
The way the Field of Balancing amplifies distortions and blocks is worth specific discussion when doing tandem balancing. Back to the way the clients' blocks resonate in the practitioner's own story line. We found that the story line of our relationship, our marriage, or the karma, you could say, acted as a lightening rod for these frequencies. There are two phenomena we would experience. One, anytime a distortion or "issue" in our personal relationship would insert itself, the negative experience of the issue would be amplified. An example of this is "I watch how she is holding the pendulum and judge that she is not doing it "right"". My judgment would immediately be amplified within my own auric field. (Thus, a temptation to her to also engage the "issue") And second, when an interpersonal issue, block or distortion of our own matched the clients' block or distortion there was potential for negative resonance. For example, "The clients' issue at the moment is that their spouse cheated on them. A resonance will take place with our own unresolved issue with attraction outside the marriage."
Just as with a single practitioner, how you respond is key. During the balancing, there were times when all of a sudden we would experience a judgment or issue come up between us. It would appear from nowhere and at first we both bought it, thought it was our own and would personally engage it. That experience is like being a magnet for negativity on many levels, the negativity would manifest as feelings, thoughts or physical sensations. This is quite intense and changes the nature of the matrix in which the balancing is taking place. It is a change that impedes the veracity and effectiveness of the process. Very rapidly, in the evolution of working together, we became aware of what was happening and nullified it. Awareness that it was not ours is key. Holding place in unconditional loving and acceptance allows this to pass harmlessly.
As a witness in balancing, everything becomes fodder for disclosure, education and transformation. We quickly learned to witness these issues that would come up and then we found they would disclose information about the client. One time, early in our evolution, we had to leave the room for a moment because the energy became so polarized negatively to us (we informed the client we had to step out for a moment and would be right back). We quickly bracketed and witnessed our own experience, identified its role in the story line, released, accepted, reoriented and went back in. This took 2 or 3 minutes max. Later we started finding that the client's story line could even show up prior (2 or 3 hours even) to the balancing in our relating to each other. We began to use this phenomena to enhance the balancing and support the client.
In a teaching situation where a group of people are involved in the balancing often the balancing may reflect a higher amperage of depth and effectiveness. In a tandem balancing approach there can also be added perspective, power, depth, and clarity. In our case the two of us would bring an added aspect of male/female polarity/perspective to it. This added perspective, according to client's feedback, had a nice value for them. The two of us working a storyline would often add depth and clarity. We found the added dimension of another consciousness was valuable. We built and supported each others' strengths. We continually learned from each other as we observed each other work. We would always debrief after a session and get further added value in feedback. With all the added value there is a strong caution. The two team-members must synchronize together and must demonstrate mature inter-personal skills. If the two are in a personal relationship they must observe carefully and avoid balancing their relationship while in the Balancing. Happy trails.
